SUMMARY:Shirin Majd & Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam in "Rebirth"
DESCRIPTION:Diaspora Arts Connection proudly presents: Shirin Majd & Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam in “Rebirth\,” inspired by the poetry of Iranian poet\, Forough Farrokhzad. “Rebirth” is a combined art performance with acclaimed Iranian-Australian soprano\, Shirin Majd as musical director and vocalist and Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam\, the internationally recognized actor\, choreographer\, and dancer\, based on the treasured poetry of contemporary female Iranian poet\, Forough Farrokhzad. “Rebirth” is a collaboration of Iranian and American artists from New York\, San Francisco\, and Brisbane. The poems in the songs will be narrated in English for non-Persian speakers. \nTickets & Information: http://pccsd.eventbrite.com/   858-552-9355 \nAbout the artists:\nwww.shirinmajd.com\nShirin was born in Tehran\, Iran. She began studying music at the age of 10. At 18 she began studying opera\, going on to study in Armenia with Hasmik Hasagorchian and later attending summer courses at the prestigious Universitat Mozarteum Salzburg\, studying with Professor Alessandra Althoff and Barbara Bonney. \nSince moving to Australia\, Shirin has continued her education in classical singing with Margaret Schindler and she graduated in Post Graduate Diploma in Music (Classical Vocal Performance) at the Queensland Conservatorium and she is currently a student in Master of Vocal Pedagogy (Singing Teacher) at the same Conservatorium. She attended the Lisa Gasteen National Opera School in 2012. \nIn 2011 Shirin performed excerpts from Verdi & Puccini operas at Erfurt Hall and Fux Sal\, Graz in Austria and has performed in various venues throughout Iran and Austria. After moving to Australia\, she joined The Queensland Choir and the Brisbane Mahler Chorus. \nShirin has performed as a soloist with different ensembles in Brisb ane and was awarded best classical singer in BEMAC planet performances in 2012 where she won a scholarship to study music business. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/shahrokhmoshkinghalam/ \nRenowned director\, choreographer\, dancer\, actor\, costume designer -Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam – has performed all over the world – dazzling fans with his artistic creations – connecting the ancient world of Persian poetry and literature to the contemporary world. Graduating from the University of Paris VIII with a bachelors degree in history of art and theatre\, he achieved tenure as a pensionnaire de la Comédie-Française for six years. \nShahrokh deserted his mother land\, at a very early age for France where he has resided for many years. In late 90’s he joined the prestigious French theatre director Ariane Mnouchkine’s Théâtre du Soleil where he received training on the fundamentals of theatrical dance\, spanning both the East and the West\, such as Indian “Kathakali”\, Indonesian “Topeng”\, Japanese “Kabuki”\, Persian “Sufi”\, and Spanish “Flamenco”. Moshkin Ghalam’s unique approach to choreography is to erase the cultural boundaries between these dance styles. He has had numerous worldwide performances\, to name a few: his collaboration as main actor in productions of “Tartuffe”\, “La Ville Parjure”\, and “des Atrides”\, his solo dance at international festivals such as Festival de Meridas\, Festival d’Asturias\, Festival de Chartres\, and many others. \nIn late 90’s\, he established the Nakissa Dance Company and has performed many of his creations with this company worldwide\, including “A Persian Night’s Dream”\, “The Route of Orient”\, “Nostalgia or Ghassedak”\, “The Seven Pavilion of Love” (Haft Peykar)\, “Omar Khayam\,” “Les Danses Mythologiques\,” “Mani the Bouddha of Light\,” and “Rumi Le brûlé“. His recent work includes “Love Stories of Shahnameh” based on epic poems from the Ferdowsi’s “Shahnameh – Book of Kings”\, “Zohreh & Manoucher” and “Aref-Nameh\,” based upon the provocative early 19th century masterpieces of Persian literature by Iraj Mirza\, “Scarlet Stone” by Siavash Kasrai. Shahrokh Moshkin Ghalam now resides in Northern California\, where he continues to create and teach master classes on Persian poetry. \n\n\n\n\nRecent Posts
